All of our second hand bikes are pre-built, safety checked by our expert technicians and ready to ride away on the same day you collect.

Critically acclaimed for its balance of speed and comfort, the first generation of SLR 8.6 has been a trusted companion for many riders and bred with the DNA of the range-topping 9 series it built a reputation of delivering outstanding performance at a wallet-friendly price. For the SLR 8.6 gets a facelift as well as a top-to-bottom review to ensure it is the perfect bike to help you find a passion for road cycling.

The Boardman SLR 8.6 Road Bike uses a redesigned, triple butted 6061 aluminium frame evolved from the first generation SLR 8.6 and 8.8, featuring aero tube profiles and endurance geometry. The curved, dropped seatstays in particular not only provide more comfort but give the bike a purposeful look.

Full carbon forks save weight and also vitally reduce vibrations, giving increased comfort and increased confidence to push on and start to better your times with every ride. Riders loved the drivetrain on the previous SLR 8.6 because of its great gearing range - this has been updated and increased so whatever may lie on your route, you'll have the gears to beat the challenge.

Finally, 25mm Vittoria Zaffiro tyres have been selected as they're grippy, comfortable and fast but also puncture-resistant meaning you can put in the miles and give your full focus to the ride.

 
 

How Our Bikes Are Graded

All of our second hand bikes have been valued and safety checked by our trained technicians, so they are ready to ride away.

They check the condition of the wheels, frame, saddle, drivetrain and handlebars against a list of criteria. Then they'll assign a grade that takes into account the bike's age and condition.

Each bike is safety checked by one of our experts, and repairs will be made to ensure it is safe to ride.

  • Grade A bikes may be lightly used, have none or very minor cosmetic/mechanical wear and the majority of its’ original parts.
  • Grade B bikes may have slight cosmetic and/or mechanical wear from light use and minor replacement parts.
  • Grade C bikes may have some cosmetic and/or mechanical wear from use and some of its’ original parts may have been replaced.

Each bike is safety checked by one of our experts, and repairs will be made to ensure it is safe to ride.

12 Month Warranty

All Halfords second hand bikes come with a 12-month guarantee (from the date of purchase) and we’ll repair any defects for free within that time period.

The only areas not covered by the guarantee are general wear and tear, and where components fail due to misuse, a lack of servicing and/or a lack of care.

 
 

No Fuss Refund

If you change your mind and no longer want the second hand bike that you have purchased, you have the right to return the bike to the store from which you bought it within 14 days from receipt and receive a refund.

Your refund may be subject to a reduction to reflect any reduction in the value of the second-hand bike. To be eligible for a refund, you must also provide your proof of purchase.

You can join us on our mission by buying a second hand bike to reduce waste, cut CO2 emissions and as a bonus savings are passed onto you as our second hand bikes are sold at a lower price compared to buying brand new.

  • Each bike expertly restored and sold to our customers results in an estimated 157.7kg CO2 emissions saving (versus buying a new bike)
  • If we restore 100,000 bikes, this will lead to 15770 tonnes of CO2 saved!
  • If a bike cannot be resold at Halfords, we will share this with our charity partners who repair & donate to African communities.
  • If unrepairable, the bike materials are sent to Re-cycle to recover the valuable materials.
