HOW TO FIND CAR PAINT CODE AND COLOUR MATCH

When it comes to repairing or respraying your car paintwork, it can be tough to find a colour match – especially if your car’s older and has faded over time.

Here at Halfords, we make it simple to find the right colour for your car with our easy paint match system using your car manufacturer’s colour code. In this guide, we’ll explain how to find your colour code, and how to use our paint system to find the right colour for your car.

How to find paint code on your car

Each car manufacturer will record the original colour of a make and model somewhere inside the car, as well as in your vehicle handbook.

To find out what colour your car is, you need to track down your paint code. This can usually be found on a plate or sticker inside the driver’s door or glovebox. See our diagram below for the best places to check according to your make and model.

The Halfords paint system

It’s easy to find the right colour for your car with our new QR code, CRL and Colour Wheel book.

Just scan the QR code to see our online spray paint range, then type your colour code into the search engine to reveal your colour match.

If you’re not sure which colour you need, you can use the paint can lids. They’re painted with paint from the exact batch in the can, so the colour you see on the lid is exactly what you’ll be spraying onto your car.

We know that car colours fade over time with age and weather. If your car colour has faded, then you can use the Colour Wheel swatch book in store to find a fainter colour, so you’re not left with a noticeable colour difference.

All our cans are fitted with a no-spray ring to stop them being emptied or tampered with in-store. Make sure you read the instructions on how to safely remove this before use once you’re ready to start spraying.

Why choose Halfords?

Within our paints range, we’ve adopted the latest colour match technology so we can cover more of the UK’s car parc (that’s the number of cars registered for UK roads). That means that while we could previously only serve 400 vehicles, we can now cover over 10,000!

Plus, to give you the best value for money, we’ve increased the size of our cans from 300ml to 400ml. All our spray paints are tested to the highest standards to guarantee a quality finish every time.
