Halfords Bike Xchange: How we assess and grade your bike
One of the key features of the Halfords Bike Xchange is that you can trade in an unwanted bike in return for a Halfords gift card to spend on the things you love. It’s a great way to not only give an old bike a new lease of life and give yourself some extra funds, but also help to reduce waste and CO2 emissions.
That’s because we’ll restore your old bike to its former glory, carry out a thorough safety check and then sell it on to a new home. And each pre-pedalled bike that we sell in this way will save an estimated 157.7kg of CO2 emissions versus someone buying a brand-new bike.
So if you’ve got an old bike taking up space at home, then consider bringing it down to your local Halfords store for a free valuation and joining the Halfords Bike Xchange!
How it works
The trade-in process is really simple:
- Check your bike is eligible
- Book a free valuation appointment
- Bring your bike into store on the day of your appointment and receive a valuation offer from one of our in-store technicians
- Accept your valuation offer and receive your Halfords gift card
Checking eligibility
In order to be eligible for the Halfords Bike Xchange, your old bike must:
- be less than 5 years old (excluding electric bikes)
- be from one of the following brands: Apollo, Boardman, Carrera, Pendleton, Indi or Voodoo
- have a visible frame number (located on the frame at the bottom of the bike between the pedals)
- be clean so we can inspect it accurately
- have no outstanding finance agreements in place
Booking a valuation
Valuations can be booked online at a time and date to suit you. Once you’ve booked your slot, just remember to bring along your bike and two forms of ID on the day of your appointment (accepted IDs include a passport or driving license alongside proof of address).
During the appointment, one of our expert in-store technicians will carefully inspect your bike to determine its condition and safety. They’ll then assign your bike a grade and offer you the value of the bike in the form of a gift card (up to £1,000/€1,300*).
Completing the trade
When you’re happy with the valuation, you’ll just need to complete some paperwork before exchanging your bike for your gift card.
This card can be redeemed online, in our stores or in our garages, and can be used on any product or service**. It’s valid for two years, so you’ll have plenty of time to find the perfect way to spend it!
