An MOT can be carried out up to one month, minus a day, prior to the expiry date of your existing MOT certificate, whilst still preserving the anniversary of the expiry date.
For example: If you have your test carried out a month before the due date, your MOT is effectively valid for 13 months.
Yes, you can book an MOT test at any time you want. However, if the test takes place more than a month before the expiry date of your current certificate, it will be valid for 12 months from the new test date.
For example: If your current certificate expires on 20 March and you had the test on 19 February, your new certificate would be valid until 19 February the following year.

Book your MOT and major serviceWe know things can happen, so if you’ve lost or damaged your MOT certificate, we can replace it for you. You’ll need to visit your local Halfords Autocentre and provide us with your vehicle’s registration number and either the original MOT test number, or V5C document reference number (which you can find on the V5C registration certificate).
You may need to pay a small fee (up to a maximum of £10) for a new MOT certificate.
Driving an un-roadworthy vehicle is dangerous to you, your passengers and to other road users and could earn you endorsements on your licence.
