Engine bearings, or bearing shells as they are also known are designed to support the crankshaft and reduces friction between the moving parts. The friction itself is a result of contact caused by the two different metals used for the alloy bearing and steel crankshaft. Supporting the crankshaft is a huge job, as this is what allows your car to move.

There are many different types of car bearings, such as main bearings and rod bearings that work to ensure your crankshaft is well supported. Just like all engine components engine components , your vehicle’s bearings are subject to intense wear and tear as your car clocks up miles. But as well as age, exposure to debris can also cause a bearing shell issue. A rod bearing failure is the more serious of the two, and can result in an entire engine rebuild. A fault with your main bearings is still serious but a lot less expensive, as it can be solved by replacing the crankshaft.
