- Optimum ambient temperature is between +10 - +25
- Once you’re done, spray the can upside down for 5 seconds to clean the nozzle
Complete all steps necessary to prepare, prime and paint the vehicle or object you’re painting. Once the colour paint has been fully applied and completely hardened, you’re ready to apply the clear lacquer.
It may be necessary to lightly sand the colour coat using P1200 wet & dry paper to remove any imperfections in the fresh paint, or to provide a key to existing aged paint. Once you’ve done this, take a tack cloth and remove any dust or contaminants on the freshly painted panel.
When lacquering an existing surface that has NOT been freshly painted, use a surface cleaner or degreaser and a lint free cloth to remove any additional contaminants.
Use a quality masking tape and masking paper to fully mask off the vehicle, leaving the area to be lacquered exposed.
If you’re completing a spot repair on a section of a single panel, leave an extra 30cm unmasked from the freshly painted colour edge so that you can blend the paint lacquer from the old paint to the new.
Shake the lacquer for 2 minutes, then apply a first thin “dust” coat to give best possible adhesion. If you’re repairing part of a panel, avoid spraying all the way up to the masked edge, stopping just before to make the final blending step easier.
Allowing time in-between coats, slowly build up the layers of lacquer until you see a uniform thickness and coverage (around 2-3 coats).
If you’re painting part of a panel, once the lacquer is fully hardened use Halfords Fade Out Thinners to create a smooth transition between the edges of the old and new lacquer. This flattens the matte textured edges of the lacquer to seamlessly blend the repair.
Allow the paint to completely harden, following the time guidance on the can, before you use your vehicle in any way – that includes, reassembly, polishing, washing, or driving.
CAUTIONS:
*The drying time can change depending on the ambient temperature, humidity and the thickness of the coats applied. Ensure the paint is fully dry before moving onto the next stage.
Take care when preparing older paint surfaces (pre-1970) as these may contain harmful lead.
Make sure you have enough ventilation in the area you’re painting in to prevent a harmful build-up of solvent gasses.

Halfords takes it’s responsibility as a retailer of age restricted products seriously. We recognise that some products we sell, such as knives/blades, spray paints and solvent based products can be harmful if misused or have a damaging influence in the community.
These restrictions are required by law and Halfords does not currently permit online sales of age restricted products direct to a customers home, place of work or other address.
It is still possible to order and then collect age restricted products from any Halfords store. This allows age verification to be made in the store and is in keeping with the Halfords Challenge 25 policy.
